SUNFLOWER MAGIC

We see a sunflower and most of us feel a lift. There is something about sunflowers that always make us smile or feel happy. We see them standing tall their beautiful heads peeking at us from over a wall

The Incas worshipped the sunflower as an emblem of the sun, while the Greek tale of the water nymph, Clytie is interesting, as she was transformed into a sunflower. Clytie fell in love with the God of the Sun Apollo (or Helius). She was so much in love that she would sit on the ground and stare up at the sun all day long ... but, Apollo never noticed her...? Typical
The other Gods took pity on her and turned her into a sunflower ... her legs became the sunflower’s stem, whilst her face became the flower, her golden hair the petals.
Even in the form of a sunflower Clytie continues to watch her love and that is why the sunflower’s face turns to follow the path of the sun...

The word sunflower comes from the Greek ‘Helianthus’ ... ‘Helios’ meaning ‘sun’ and ‘anthos’ meaning flower and it is Greek mythology which provides us with the story of the origin of the sunflower ...

Sunflower seeds contain oil often used in medications for the treatment of coughs and colds. In North America the Meskwaki, Indian tribe, still uses sunflower roots to make poultices for burns and sores.

The world is truly a better place and we could all benefit from a bit of Sunflower Magic. !
